Last year saw sales of laptops surpass desktops for the first time ever. And that trend is unlikely to be reversed anytime soon as notebooks see their price ever-decreasing and power ever-increasing to either match or overtake desktops. Could this result in the death of the desktop as we know it?

Panic buying can be prompted by a number of different factors. Severe weather on the way, natural disasters, and war are all legitimate reasons to stock up. And so it seems are European initiatives to save the environment, at least where the British population is concerned.

The organization behind this week’s Consumer Electronics Show says environmentally friendly technology will be a hit this year. It says research shows the majority of consumers will now pay more for a green product.

The entire Indian IT industry is today trying to avoid its reputation being contaminated after a major firm’s chairman admitted faking company accounts. Ramalinga Raju admitted that almost all of the billion dollars of assets listed in a recent filing were fictitious.

The netbook market has exploded in the last year, with Asus leading the pack in terms of new features in its Eee PC line. Now Asus has unveiled the new T91 touch screen netbook that double as a tablet PC at the Consumer Electronics Show.

Text messaging has become the communication method of choice for many of us, myself included. It is something that people take for granted while at the same time wondering why it is so expensive when the data chunks are so small. One Senator polled the cell phone providers to find out their reasoning behind the 100 percent price increases year after year.

There wasn’t much worth noting announced at the 2009 Macworld Expo, and most of the attention therefore focused on the absence of Steve Jobs as he undergoes treatment for a hormone deficiency. But the move to make iTunes completely free of DRM is at least one to make note of, even if it means prices will now be changing.

It’s now confirmed that recent breaches of Twitter accounts belonging to celebrities were separate to a phishing scam carried out across the network. Several posters on an Internet discussion forum have now claimed credit for either the original hacking or for abusing the uncovered login details.

Clearwire is set to launch its wireless Internet access service this morning in Portland, Oregon just four months after its initial launch in Baltimore. The company is also set to introduce its new brand during this rollout, confusingly dubbed just Clear.

The number of online videos Americans watched in November 2008 grew 34 percent over last year. Users are also boosting their time spent watching videos on the Web as long form videos from Hulu rise in popularity.
