Convert Your Photo Into Line Art with Fireworks

Next

Converting a photo to line art can be done with the built-in features of Fireworks, and this tutorial will quickly walk you through the steps. Download the original images from the Support Files link at the bottom of the page or use your own images if you prefer, and follow along in Fireworks .

Here is the basic unmodified image:


Image 1: The starting image.

Load that image into Fireworks. Select the image, and then use the Find Edges Filter ( Filters > Other > Find Edges ). This will produce:


Image 2: After the Find Edge filter is applied.

Now we need to invert the picture using the Invert filter, found under the Adjust Color Menu ( Filters > Adjust Color >Invert ). This produces:


Image 3: After the Invert filter is applied.

Since we are trying for a line art look, we need to remove the color, so now convert to grayscale with Commands > Creative > Convert to Grayscale. This will produce:


Image 4: After the Convert to Grayscale creative command is applied.
