Updated review...
- Pros: I already wrote a review of this laptop, but upon further tweaking I just have to say that this computer is amazing.
- Cons: The computer takes a little tweaking to get working completely bug free, mostly as a result of Vista more than anything
- Other Thoughts: Ok, if you buy this laptop and you don't want to have issues with the keyboard lagging or anything like that, don't install the touchpad software and don't install "keyboard filter" on the drivers disk (use the advanced button ont he drivers disk to uncheck these from the menu). If you don't disable those two items you will most likely have problems with the keyboard. It's not noticeable if you type slowly, but if you're like me and upwords of 90+ wpm you'll have to take some meds to calm yourself down until you figure out that you should just take my advice. Also, I just went to the ATI website for the video drivers and downloaded Catalyst 8.7 to update my video drivers, the one that is on the cd isn't the newest one out, and upon doing so I refreshed my vista rating and I now have a 5.0 average score. This laptop is amazing and the 1440x900 screen makes all the difference.
great budget laptop
- Pros: * Expressgate - what a great idea. In case you don't know what Expressgate is, it's a mini-OS built into Asus' newest laptops. It boots in a few seconds! It has a full-featured Web browser with Flash 9 support, a mail client, a Skype client, and an IM client. I took the laptop on a trip, and whenever I needed to get quick access to the Web or chat, I just booted up Expressgate. It was really convenient!
* 1440x900 resolution with a dedicated video card. This is one of the few 15.4" laptops with a high resolution and dedicated video card that costs less than $1000.
* Numeric keypad. At first, I thought its numeric keypad would be bad because of the non-standard layout, but I found it was easy to get used to. I wish the + key was slightly larger, but the keypad is fine otherwise.
- Cons: * As a previous reviewer said, the keyboard filter driver that comes with the laptop interferes with fast typing. I ended up going to the Control Panel -> Device Manager -> Keyboard -> Keyboard Filter and uninstalling it (and deleting the driver software so it wouldn't reinstall). Now the laptop generally keeps up with my typing, although it still misses some keypresses when I type fast. Thus far, I'm afraid of uninstalling the touchpad software as the previous reviewer recommends, but I might if I continue to have typing issues.
* The screen is one of the most reflective screens I've ever had with a laptop. (Admittedly, this is the first mass-produced laptop I've ever owned; I usually buy custom laptops with anti-glare and anti-reflective features.) However, the screen is still better than almost any other budget laptop's screen that I've ever seen.
* Unlike many other laptops, there is no separate volume control on the keyboard. One must use Fn-F11 and Fn-F12 to adjust the volu
- Other Thoughts: This is the best budget laptop I've ever seen. If I was not reviewing based on the price, I'd give this laptop a 4/5 since it has features that I would normally have upgraded on a custom laptop. However, as a budget laptop, I don't think I could give it anything less than 4.5/5, and I like it so much I'm giving it a 5/5.

USB Printer Fix
- Pros: Great Laptop. However you may find your USB Printer not working out of box with this laptop. If so visit
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
search for your model ((this fix is for all M51 series)) get the USB filter Driver for Windows Vista, install, restart and its fixed.
- Cons: Printer issue
Awesome
- Pros: Cheap, 2x Video Cards, Play Crysis on High Setting No problem. Its got some useful software from the manufacturer. on between 72-75 Processes out the box. Lighting fast processors that maybe just as fast as a desktop. Beautiful laptop. Can Plug in up to 3 monitors.
- Cons: wimpy speakers and soundcard that cannot keepup with crysis. no external volume control and it gets really hot while playing battlefield 2142. I caught it at about 84 C. Can't use crossfire mode on this 7 series chipset
:(
- Other Thoughts: Great Computer for the price. Great looking.
driver issue
- Pros: this is the best laptop you can get period for the money. Amazing quality and performance.
- Cons: the only bad thing I can say is that there is an issue with this usb chipset. I sent in this model to asus so they could figure out why my printer wouldn't work. They figured out that an extra driver is required. go to their website to download it.
- Other Thoughts: get two of these...
