How can I watch DVD movies on a Sony PSP?

It is now possible to encode files for the Sony PSP device with Nero Recode. Users can now encode any files from their library of non-copy protected personal videos or movies. An illustrated document is available upon request.

How to encode files for the Sony PSP device with Nero Recode:

Connect the Sony PSP with the inserted Sony Memory Stick (TM) to the PC via a USB cable.
Turn on the PSP and start the USB connection in the configuration menu.
Start Nero Recode and choose one of the two options to create Nero Digital files ("Recode DVDs and Videos to Nero Digital" or "Recode Main Movie to Nero Digital").
Add the content you want to convert to your PSP and select the Nero Digital(TM) profile "Memory Stick Video (PSP(R) compatible)"
With the Video button it is now possible to create thumbnails from the exported videos for each title.
Click Next and choose the PSP device in the destination selector
Click on the Burn button. The file will now be encoded in a PSP compatible Nero Digital (TM) file format and transferred to the proper location on the PSP
On the PSP, stop the USB connection and go to the movie section. There you will find your movie.
When copying to memory stick, the format is MPEG-4 ASP.

Is there any way that I can copy my DVD movies to a cd or dvd that can be play by the sony PSP

I am having trouble gettin a video I downloaded from the internet to my psp. I have it on my psp but if I go under video it says no videos but i know its on my psp because it took up room...Any ideas??

Why isn't there yet a PSP client that will stream the 20000 hours of DiVX tv shows and ripped dvds that are on my home network? All the computers in the house can share this video, and the PSP has Wifi-G, which should be fast enough... what's missing???

I just got a PSP and i dont know anything about it so try to bear with me,ok/ Anyway i need to know something, if im in a building that offers a wireless highspeed connection will my PSP atomatically read the connection name,SSID,the WLAN security settings and address settings of the building connect? For instance my school has a wireless connection,is there anyway i can connect to it?

look there is a much easier way to do this. First

1. download and instal Magic DVD Ripper. http://www.magicdvdripper.com/

2. Insert dvd into dvd drive.

3. On the output selection in Magic Dvd Ripper select Psp.

4. When movie is finished place movie in 100MNV01 folder in the psp.

I tried the DVD decrypter with a movie,(monster house) and it didnt work, it kept on making errors. Anybody know why? or how i could solve this problem?

Getting my freakin PSP to download movies has been a nightmare. I never would have bought the damn thing if I knew it would be this bad. Right now, it's an expensive paperweight.

I also did what Dave said, Placed movie in K:/MP_ROOT/100MNV01/ which works great. Movie played with no problems.

I got quite a large memory stick so i can place multiple movies on my memory stick.

Example:

K:/MP_ROOT/100MNV01/M4V00001.MP4 = Movie 1
K:/MP_ROOT/100MNV01/M4V00002.MP4 = Movie 2
K:/MP_ROOT/100MNV01/M4V00003.MP4 = Movie 3

In my PSP when i go to Video > Memory Card it only reads Movie 1, yet not the other movie.

Any suggestions?

i used dvd decrypter but it divides the movie in to 0.99 gigabyte chapters which are to big to put on my memory card!

Is it advised to get "datel get connected media manager for psp" in order to put my mp3s and videos on my psp, or am i fine without it

I just DL a DBZ movie on my psp but the sound is off from the movie. What's going on? I read through a few articles but found no answer. And I also used the dvd ripper but the movie is spanish. Please respond thanks in advance.

hey dave you have been really helpful for me learning to get around my psp last night i learnt how to put music on to it but i had to reformat the memory. i got a 512 memory and im now trying to put my mpeg movies on to it but doesnt seem to work. im converting them with any_video converter. the converted files come up as like little Q time symbols could this be a problem but it does .mp4 after the file name with the MV01000 at the front. i drag them into the mp root then in to the 100MNV01 folder then once copied i safely remove hard ware then go onto my psp in to the video menu and it says "there are no videos."

Hiya I just got a PSP yesterday and read this entry and followed its steps precisely, however my PSP states that the file formate, being MP4, is unsupported by the syste. I have formated my memory card (and it is fairly large 1GB, so now issues with space), and properly converted (and named) the video files and everything however the data files remain unsuported by the PSP's system (or so it says). Any suggestion would be great (e-mail suggestions are better as I only found this site by accident =D). Thank you in advance.

Truth be told, I ultimately found the Sony PSP so picky about video formats that I gave up and bought a Creative Zen Vision:W device, which plays everything you can throw at it and has the same screen as the PSP. Oh, and it has "TV out" too, so you can actually watch the movies on a big TV if you have one available (like in a hotel room).

ummm, the converter seemed kinda fishy...mcafee noticed it was chaing a bunch of registries very fast and the installer disabled it's cancel buttons, so i couldn't stop the download if i wanted to. seems kinda fishy, anyone else notice this?

I think this article might be obsolete, and needs a change. As of PSP OS 3.30 there are three directories at the root level of the memory stick: \PSP, \VIDEO, and \PICTURE

You can simply copy a video file to the VIDEO directory without renaming it as long as it's a playable video file on the PSP.

I have tried many attempts to add video files to my PSP. I have firmware 3.8. Is there something different that i should know. I have them named the way you said to name them in previous comments.

I am having the same problem. I have tried many times to add video files to my PSP following the instructions. I've named them correctly, created the correct folders and my PSP still does not recoginize any video file. I to have firmware 3.8. Help?

I've used the decrypter on a couple of DVDs and it saved them as about half a dozen seperate files. Is this how it should be? I've not had time to convert them with PSP Video 9 yet, but wanted to check that I'm on the right track before I go any further. In your instructions you mention converting the "file" rather than files!

Okay... this is how you copy to your "new" psp...

Create a folder on your duo memory stick... called "Video" (note - this has to be in the root of the stick, not under a directory). Renaming is not necessary... any mp4 will play without issue.

I got Harold And Kumar White Castle. I converted it to MP4 format. It's 1 whole piece. I put it in MN whatever file in the MP_ROOT. It takes up room, i see it in videos on my PSP. But when i want to watch it it says unsupported format.

I transfer video files (mpeg 4) files to my PSP it says corrupted.?

I have recently bought a Sony memory card—not fake. I could play one movie but once I downloaded the 2nd one it did not work just said corrupted data. I removed the first movie n again downloaded the 2nd one it sill says corrupted data.

File size first movie that worked = about 400 mb

File size of the 2nd movie (the one that shows corrupted data) = about 600 mb.

Please help. How can I make this work…???

I usually use this way to put my DVD movies and music to psp, now share to you.
Only five steps:

Step 1: Download and install Aiseesoft DVD to PSP Converter.

Step 2: Click 'File' menu and 'Open DVD', or directly hit 'Open DVD' button to load the DVD.

Step 3: Select the output file formats.

Step 4: Click the "Convert" button on the main interface to start the conversion.

Step 5: You should create a new file named MP_ROOT under the root directory and then create a file named 100MNV01 under the MP_ROOT file. Put your converted video in the 100MNV01 files and you can enjoy your video on PSP.

Wow it took me a while to get this working but it did work in the end, so I will explain again. :)

Ok first you need to convert the DVD you want to put on your PSP into the .MP4 format, the tool I used was "Magic DVD Ripper" they have a free trial on their website so you can test it if you want.

When you are done converting the DVD weather you are using "Magic DVD Ripper" or another program you will have 2 files one is the .MP4 and the other is .THM, both files are needed or you wont have sound.

Ok now insert your memory stick into your computer (Im assuming you have a card reader) and open it. Create a new folder called "MP_ROOT" without the "" now double click on the MP_ROOT folder and create another folder called "100MNV01" again without the "" now double click on the 100MNV01 folder to open it.

Now Copy or Cut and paste the .MP4 and .THM files into the 100MNV01 folder.

and the last step is to change the names of the .MP4 and .THM files to M4V00001.MP4 and M4V00001.THM

For each movie you put into the folder you will have to change the 00001 to the next number like this

For the first video M4V00001.MP4 and M4V00001.THM
For the second video M4V00002.MP4 and M4V00002.THM
For the third video M4V00003.MP4 and M4V00003.THM
and you continue counting up for every new movie you put on the card.
