Britney #1, Brangelina Bump, Winona Mystery
Here's why we're assuming you're still interested in Britney Spears: AppScout writes that she was once again the year's most popular Yahoo! search, saying, "You'd think it was 2007. Or 2006. Or 2005, for that matter. Sure, this year we had an historic presidential election and a near-meltdown of the global economy and the Olympics and wars in both Iraq and and Afghanistan... But as ever, Yahoo searchers had one thing on their minds: Britney-freaking-Spears." (For the record, Obama came in third, notes My Yahoo! Blog.) Keystone Blog asks, "Are there really any secrets left about this woman?" Maybe! Her new album, Circus, will be released tomorrow. She's on the cover of the January 2009 Glamour and says in the accompanying article "My music is therapy" (via The Derrty Truth). Celebrity Smack has the interview in full. And Spears's hour-long MTV special, Britney: For the Record, aired last night. "It was very entertaining, but someone needs to call MTV out on being the biggest liars on the planet," writes Videogum, which has clips.
Cyber Monday Deal Roundup
A bunch of people followed bloggers' advice and did their shopping from home on the day after Thanksgiving: Online sales were up 1% from last year, reports TechFlash, citing a comScore report, with "$534 million was spent on online purchases Friday, which compares to $531 million last year." Media Memo writes, "If flat is the new up, then online retailers should be doing handstands." But things weren't bad in stores, either: Scrapbook Update reports, "According to the National Retail Federation's 2008 Black Friday Weekend survey, conducted by BIGresearch, more than 172 million shoppers visited stores and websites over Black Friday weekend, up from 147 million shoppers last year...Shoppers spent an average of $372.57 this weekend, up 7.2% over last year's $347.55." You'll still be glad you stayed home, though, when you read Gizmodo's "Black Friday Horror Stories" post.
